Former Knesset member Gadi Eisenkot, who recently left the National Unity party, reminded attendees at the Security and Service Conference organized by ynet, Yedioth Ahronoth and the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) that both IDF chiefs of staff – Herzi Halevi and Eyal Zamir – have clarified that “conditions exist to return the hostages.” Eisenkot questioned why this isn’t happening, saying: “I saw it up close, and this is the reason we left the cabinet with a heavy heart, it’s the introduction of political considerations into the decision-making process.” Eisenkot emphasized: “It was true a year ago – and it remains true today.”
