Andrew Cuomo announced he is withdrawing from the New York City mayoral primary race – conceding victory to his rival Zohran Mamadani, despite the vote count not being completed yet. “It’s his night. He earned it. He won,” Cuomo told ynet, adding that he has not yet decided whether he will run in the general election as an independent candidate. According to partial results after counting about 90% of first-choice votes, Mamadani leads with 43.5%, compared to 36.3% for Cuomo and 11.4% for Brad Lander. No candidate crossed the 50% threshold, so the final decision will come next week after counting preference votes under the ranked-choice voting system. Mamadani, who formally allied with Lander toward the end of the campaign, is expected to benefit from transferred votes.
