Brazil’s Supreme Court has issued a house arrest order for former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is on trial for an attempted coup following the 2022 elections, which he lost to current President Lula da Silva. Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who has been sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury Department, issued the arrest order for Bolsonaro, claiming he violated restraining orders imposed on him about two weeks ago – and worked to have U.S. President Donald Trump intervene in his trial. The order also prohibits Bolsonaro from using a mobile phone or receiving visitors, except for his lawyers and people authorized by the court.
