Milei’s decision came after hhe met with U.S. Sen. Steve Daines, who requested that the president disclose information about the period when Argentina provided shelter to Nazis fleeing Germany after the war.
“There are still unpublished documents about the Nazis’ banking and financial operations,” Francos said. “Milei has ordered the release of all available information across all state agencies. The most significant files are likely in the Defense Ministry. There is no reason to keep these details hidden.”
Argentina became a haven for several high-ranking Nazi officials, including Josef Mengele and Adolf Eichmann. Mengele, known as the “Angel of Death” for his experiments on prisoners at Auschwitz, is believed to have lived in Argentina before dying in Brazil. Eichmann, a key architect of the Holocaust, was captured by Israeli Mossad agents in Argentina in 1960, tried in Israel, and executed in 1962.
The release of these documents is expected to reveal new details about their time in Argentina and the activities of other Nazi fugitives.
Milei also announced the declassification of all information related to the actions of Argentina’s armed forces during the military junta’s rule from 1976 to 1983.
