A man has been arrested after a car ploughed into a family’s living room as they slept.

The car crashed into the house in Flamsteed Road, Nottingham, at about 01:00 BST on Sunday.

Nottinghamshire Police said the driver fled the scene but a suspect was found shortly after, and they subsequently failed a breathalyser test.

A spokesperson for the force said a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink-driving, criminal damage, aggravated vehicle taking.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of driving without a valid licence and driving without the correct insurance.

Police said the driver of the car reportedly lost control at a roundabout, before mounting a kerb and colliding with the house.

The homeowners were asleep upstairs at the time and nobody was injured, but the house was left with significant damage, the force added.
