Cullyhanna GAC have said Pearse Casey is “making very good progress” in hospital after he suffered a head injury in Sunday’s Armagh Senior Football Championship game against Mullaghbawn.
Casey sustained the injury in a challenge with an opposing player after just four minutes of the Group B game in Mullaghbawn, which led to a lengthy stoppage and the game’s abandonment.
Casey was captain when the south Armagh club won the 2024 All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship, kicking a point in the final against Cork’s Cill Na Martra at Croke Park.
In a statement on Monday evening, Cullyhanna said: “We are delighted and relieved that Pearse is making very good progress and is receiving the best possible care in the Royal Hospital in Belfast.
“We wish Pearse all the best as he continues his recovery. St Patrick’s will continue to do everything we can to support Pearse and his family who are very grateful for all the kindness they have received.
“We join the Casey family in reiterating our sincerest gratitude to all those who assisted Pearse, the staff in the hospital, the Air Ambulance personnel, the medical and support staff who attended Pearse on the pitch, the match officials and the entire Mullaghbawn club especially their stewards for the expertise and respect shown to Pearse.
