Charlotte Korchak, who was visiting the camp for the first time, told the young woman who approached her that some of her friends had been killed in the Hamas terror attacks on October 7. The confrontation occurred after the visitor asked, “Have you no shame?” in reference to Korchak holding the flag. The incident ended after the Jewish teens in the group sang, “Am Yisrael Chai” and the young woman left the area.
The young woman later clarified that she did not hate Jews, only Zionists. Korchak replied, pointing to the camp entrance, “Don’t you oppose Jews who believe they deserve a country so that this never happens again? We are defending ourselves.”
Korchak’s video, also shared on Instagram, drew widespread support. Users praised her courage and the singing of the teens.
The incident echoes a recent case involving Israel’s “Witnesses in Uniform” program. During a flag march at the Birkenau camp entrance, local authorities required the group to remove Israeli flags because the ceremony had not been coordinated in advance. Auschwitz Museum officials said that flags are only permitted as part of approved and pre-arranged ceremonies.
