‘Major disruption’ after train derails near Milton Keynes

Passengers were being warned of “major disruption” after a train derailed, causing several lines to be closed.

London Northwestern Railway said the “low speed” derailment happened in the Bletchley area near Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire on Thursday.

The company said that no passengers were on board and no injuries had been reported.

National Rail warned that trains could be cancelled or delayed, and added: “Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.”

Milton Keynes is on the West Coast mainline, connecting London to the Midlands and North of England and Scotland.

It is served by London Northwestern Railway and Avanti West Coast.

A spokesperson from London Northwestern Railway said: “We are working closely with Network Rail to resolve the disruption as soon as possible. In the meantime, ticket acceptance is available with East Midlands Railway and Transport for London Overground.”

Avanti said tickets would be accepted by other operators on “various routes”.
