Man and four teenagers charged after police attacked in Fife

A man and four teenagers have been charged after police were hit by eggs and stones when a mob gathered on a street in Levenmouth in Fife.

Police were called to Pirnie Street in Methilhill on Sunday after a crowd of up to 100 people targeted a house at about 16:40.

Video posted on social media showed crowds chanting and beeping car horns while police stood guard outside the property.

A 23-year-old man, 16-year-old girl and three boys aged 14, 15 and 17 have all been reported to the procurator fiscal over the incident.

Police said they were aware of another gathering planned for Friday and urged people not to engage in anti-social behaviour or disorder.

Three men, aged 22, 38 and 47, a 36-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl were previously charged in connection with Sunday’s incidents.

Ch Insp Craig Fraser said inquiries were ongoing and warned that anyone taking part in disorder would be identified and charged.

He said: “The violence officers experienced while carrying out their duties was unacceptable and we would encourage people not to engage in further disorder.

“We are particularly concerned with the number of children who have been present.

“We understand there are strong feelings in the local area but that is no excuse for violence or disorder.”
