
A man has been charged with attempting to murder a police officer in Greenock on Sunday.
The officer was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after being stabbed during the incident in the town’s East India harbour shortly after 02:00.
A 31-year-old man is then alleged to have fled the scene in a dinghy, before being arrested at Rhu Marina near Helensburgh.
He will appear at Greenock Sheriff Court later.
The officer has since been discharged from hospital.
Police Scotland Supt Emma MacKay praised her colleagues for their efforts and for ensuring there was no further risk to the public.
She said: “The officer and his colleagues showed incredible bravery and professionalism during this difficult and challenging incident and I would like to thank them for their efforts.
“We’d like to thank our emergency services colleagues and partner agencies who were on the scene and provided vital assistance during the incident.”
She added that the force’s thoughts were with the injured officer.
