Massive clouds of smoke blanket California as Gifford fire grows


Firefighters are working to contain the Gifford Fire that has burned through part of the Los Padres National Forest.

The fire has burned more than 82,000 acres, according to California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and had developed from multiple smaller fires along Highway 166.

According to latest figures, it is threatening more than 800 structures and is only 7% contained. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
