“We received a notice from Cleese’s management regarding the postponement due to changes in his schedule,” the announcement read. “Tickets will be automatically reassigned based on the original order of performances.”
Cleese, best known for “Monty Python” and “Fawlty Towers”, informed the Israeli production team he would need to reschedule his visit. The new dates are November 26 in Jerusalem and November 27, November 30 and December 1 in Tel Aviv. Israeli actor and comedian Zvika Hadar will host the shows.
This will mark Cleese’s second visit to Israel. The 85-year-old first performed in the country in September 2019.
In 1969, Cleese co-founded the Monty Python comedy troupe alongside Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam. That year, “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” debuted on television, revolutionizing sketch comedy and leaving a lasting global impact on the genre.
The group went on to release three cult-classic films: “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” (1975), “Life of Brian” (1979), and “The Meaning of Life” (1983). Afterward, the members pursued individual projects.
In 1975, Cleese created and starred in “Fawlty Towers”, which became a critically acclaimed and enduring classic. In 1988, he starred in the hit crime comedy “A Fish Called Wanda”, earning an Academy Award nomination for its screenplay. More recently, he appeared in “The Palace”, directed by Roman Polanski.
