Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday denounced the investigation into the so-called “Qatargate” affair as a political witch hunt, after giving testimony and following the arrests of two of his close associates.
Speaking publicly for the first time since his adviser Yonatan Urich and former spokesperson Eli Feldstein were detained, Netanyahu said police initially told him the questioning would take four hours but ended it after just one.
“I asked to see material, to see something — they had nothing to show,” Netanyahu said. “I was shocked. I realized it was a political investigation, but I didn’t understand how far it went. They are holding Urich and Feldstein as hostages.”
Netanyahu accused law enforcement of trying to prevent the dismissal of the Shin Bet chief and to bring down a right-wing prime minister, framing the case as politically motivated.
