Screenwriter Paul Laverty arrested at protest under terror act

Screenwriter Paul Laverty has been charged for “showing support for a proscribed organisation” at a pro-Palestine protest in Edinburgh.

Laverty, a long-term collaborator of Ken Loach, wrote the films I, Daniel Blake, Sweet Sixteen and The Wind That Shakes the Barley.

It is understood that the 68-year-old was charged over a T-shirt he wore at the protest outside St Leonards Police Station.

Police Scotland said Laverty had been released on an undertaking to appear in court and a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
