Swindon cordon to remain as man dies in ‘serious incident’

A man in his 20s has died in a “serious incident” as police are hunting for an e-bike rider.

Manchester Road in Swindon has been closed after a man was found seriously injured at about 05:10 BST. Officers are working to identify his next of kin.

Wiltshire Police said there is “no information to suggest that this incident is linked to a terrorism arrest” in the same area.

Det Ch Insp Phil Walker said: “We would especially like to hear from a male, who was on an electric bike, who initially approached officers to make them aware of the incident but then left the scene without leaving his details.”

He added that they are keeping “an open mind” about what caused the man’s death.

“We are asking members of the public to help by sharing any information they may have in relation to this,” he said.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust confirmed that they “sent two double-crewed land ambulances and an operations officer to the scene,” and that they conveyed one patient to Great Western Hospital.

A cordon on Manchester Road is expected to remain in place “for the foreseeable future”, police added.

A police spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with a serious incident in Manchester Road. The road is closed and is likely to remain closed for several hours.”
