The smartest people are losing it. Our lives have been taken over by the TikTok algorithm. Chinese mathematicians came up with it to encourage 11-year-old girls to do ridiculous things online, to dance to the silliest songs and to post them for clicks. Still, that algorithm is currently deciding Israel’s public discourse.
The events of recent days have proved that people with the highest intelligence, those who hold the most significant positions that affect our lives: the prime minister, lawmakers, the Supreme Court Chief justice, and a former deputy chief of the IDF, all behave like children. Everything is determinative, extreme and one-faceted. If we the public were to be infected by those perceptions, they may become reality.
Former chief justice and world-renowned judge Aharon Barak told Ynet that Israel was on the verge of a civil war. I have not agreed with most of his rulings but there is no doubt that he is highly intelligent. So no, your honor, you are out of touch with reality. Yes, there is tension and stress but more than that there is typical Israeli affinity.
Who would fight in his supposed civil war? Find one battalion or unit that would go out to kill their own brothers and sisters. You would not find them. There are none. Some 7% of extreme noise makers exist on it extreme of the political spectrum but if you don’t get a hold of yourself, that number might grow.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, How about you? We learned this week that your spokesperson Eli Feldstein received payment originating in Qatar, a terror state. You have heard it from Feldstein himself – through his attorney. And your reaction is to post a four-minute video clip alleging a deep state?
Yes sir, The judicial system in Israel probably needs more diversity and some change. Public servants as well, but your own spokesperson, who you employed although he failed to receive security clearance, Is he the deep state? Instead of doing what any responsible person would do, admit there are grave allegations that must be investigated, and that national security is more important than any political career, you chose to lie and spread further polarization.
And you, Likud lawmaker Nissim Vaturi, what is your problem? Your recent post showed a picture of two prime ministers, two IDF chiefs, to Shin Bet chiefs, a former head of Mossad and a former police commissioner and called them leaders of a terror organization, the operational arm of Hamas. Are you for real?
We live in a time when it is appropriate to question any existing conceptions regarding Israel’s security. Those people in your post share in the responsibility for some of the wrong conceptions that prevailed in recent years and they may be criticized for that. But how would your ingratitude for their years of service and your rudeness change anyone’s conceptions? Do you believe you could convince even one person who holds different views to yours? Or is your ultimate goal to look good in the eyes of those who think just like you?
And how about your, Democrat Party leader Yair Golan, the former deputy chief of staff. In your post you said that the troops fighting Hamas in Gaza are pawns in Netanyahu’s fight for political survival. Really? Is that what the tens of thousands of soldiers defending our borders, need to hear? Or their mothers at home? Do you really believe Netanyahu would opt to kill hostages just to hang on to his seat? Is that what the families of those hostages need to hear?
Israeli democracy would not fall if Netanyahu fired the head of Shin Bet, as long as he did so legally. It would not be destroyed by demonstrators filling the streets, to protest against him. They are not bringing democracy to an end, nor are they terrorists working on behalf of Hamas.
Israel needs leaders who bring moderation, regardless of their positions. We need public servants who can bring intelligent arguments to the discourse and would be able to explain and attempt to convince those who think differently, rather than cause further division that would only bring us to the brink. Not everything has to be so extreme and radical.
It is up to us, the citizens of Israel. Our past and present leaders, lawmakers, judges and politicians, have all lost their balance. We must assume responsibility for our own perception. If we listen to those people in leadership, we risk believing their nonsense. We might be convinced that our country is on the cusp of a civil war, or just a step away from becoming a dictatorship, or that the deep state has taken control of our entire lives. We are an intelligent, caring peoples who know how to act and assume responsibility.
We are surrounded by danger and threats across all our borders, from bloodthirsty enemies. We do not have the privilege of losing our focus and poisoning our society. The real danger would be in believing those who seek to spread panic and discord.
They do not reflect reality. Despite the high positions that they hold, they are operating under the control of Chinese algorithms
