French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told the UN Security Council that his country ‘will not hesitate to reimpose sanctions on Iran if negotiations with the US fail.’ According to him, ‘If Europe’s security interests are not guaranteed when the nuclear agreement expires in a few weeks, it goes without saying that we won’t hesitate to reimpose all sanctions that were lifted 10 years ago.’ In 2015, Western powers – including the US, Britain, France and Germany – signed a nuclear agreement with Iran, under which they lifted the sanctions imposed on it.
